The History

Riverview, located at 514 Second Street in Columbus, Mississippi, is a remarkable example of Greek Revival architecture built between 1847 and 1851. Constructed of brick with an all-stretcher veneer, it is covered by a low-pitched hipped roof of original slate. Its grandiose proportions, measuring 60 feet in height (the equivalent of a modern six-story building), encompass a city block between First and Second Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues, including a separate kitchen/servants’ quarters south of the mansion.
